“Whenever I despair, I remember that the way of truth and love has always won. There may be tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they may seem invincible, but in the end, they always fail. Think of it: always. “

Movie Rating: 2.5/5
Audience Expression: Not upto the mark!

MOVIE INFO:
Runtime: 1 hr 57 mins
Cast:Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Lara Dutta, Rahul Dev, Zayed Khan
Genre: Action/Adventure/Thriller
Music: A. R. Rahman
Action Director:James Bomalick
Under-water cinematographer: Pete Zuccarini
Direction: Anthony D Souza
Producer: Dhilin Mehta
Release Date: Oct 16, 2009

STORY OUTLINE:

Sanjay Dutt and Akshay kumar are good friends settled in the Bahamas. Akshay is a rich business man and Sanjay dutt, a fisher man/diver is a not so ambitious guy. Lara dutta plays the glamorous wife of Sanjay.

Zayed khan , younger brother of sanjay gets in trouble in bangkok after messing with some goons and returns to sanjay in bahamas for hiding leaving his new found love – katrina kaif .Meanwhile there are some references to Dutt’s memory of a sunken ship when akshay tries to instigate him for a treasure hunt of a long lost ‘Lady in the blue’ ship.

The goons come searching for Zayed in Bahamas and threaten to kill him if they do not get $50 millon. Akshay and Zayed try to convince Sanajy to go for the missing treasure but Sanjay is unperturbed and is reluctant to go for treasure hunt. The goons kidnap Lara dutta and Sanjay is forced to go for the treasure.

Sanjay , Akshay and Zayed spot the treasure and how they get rid of the baddies and the real reason for why Akshay is hell bent on going for treasure from the beginning forms the rest of the story line.

PERFORMANCES:

AkshayAkshay kumar is good in the role of a rich business man with a hidden agenda. He is at ease playing the character.

Sanjay Dutt looks old and tired in the movie.

Lara Dutta is uber hot and exposes liberally. She is spectacular in Bikini.

Rahul Dev impresses in his role as a bad guy and leader of the bangkok goon gang. Zayed khan has lifted his performance a bit from his previous dud acting.

Katrina kaif is wasted and her special appearance does not amuse the audience much.

THE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT:

Action sequences by James Bomalik ( Die Hard 4, Mr and Mrs Smith) both on the ground and under water are stunning.

The Songs are visually good but the much anticipated number ‘Chiggy wiggy’ in which pop singer Kylie Minogue makes a special appearance is not at all impressive and she is wasted.

The under water sequences by Peter Zuccharini (Pirates of the Caribbean) are spectacular and visually appealing.

ANALYSIS AND VERDICT:

The Plot of the movie is pretty weak and appears to be a run of the mill beaten track. Of course, the movie boasts of stunning underwater photography and Lara dutta’s bikini show but that’s all it has got.Sanjay Dutt’s acting could have been better .The surreal world of Ducatti Bikes and Yachts is cool.It would have really helped the movie if the twists and turns are interesting but they become predictable. The climax is weak and unappealing.

On the whole ,You may watch the movie in leisure for the Stunning underwater photography, Lara Dutta’s Bikini and well shot action sequences. But you are at your own risk if you are expecting more.

Rating : 2.5/5

Cast: Surya, Tamannah, Prabhu, Akashdeep Saigal, Ponvannan, Renuka, M S Bhaskar, Jagan etc.
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Director: K V Anand
Producer: A V M Saravanan, M S Guhan
Punch line : ‘Catch me if you can’ in Tamil/Telugu style!

Plot outline : ( Contains spoilers)

The story is about Deva(Surya) who works with Das(Prabhu) in smuggling activities.Kamlesh (Akashdeep) is their business rival who is hell bent on destroying Das and to establish his monopoly in the smuggling business.Das gang is joined by Chitti (Jagan) who becomes a close friend to Deva gradually but is actually a covert of Kamlesh.Deva meanwhile falls in love with Chitti’s sister Tamannah. The rest of the story deals with the death of Chitti and Das at the hands of Kamlesh and how Deva takes revenge on them.

Plus points :

1. Surya is perfect in the role of a street smart smuggler and loyal gangman of Prabhu.
2. The Action sequence at the beginning of the film in Africa is simply superb. You will get the feeling that you are watching a Hollywood film for a few moments.
3.Tamannah looks cute and is good in the limited role.

Negative points:

1. There is no need to kill Das.Seems the director just wanted to kill the character to add to the revenge of the main protagonist.
2. The love story is not very appealing.
3.The villain’s acting is bad.
4.There are several boring scenes that make the audience bored/uncomfortable in the story.
5.Anyone who watches English movies regularly will find this movie to be a copy of movies like “catch me if you can “, “god father” etc,

Summary:

I had good expectations when i went into the theater because of the nice reviews this film has got allover, but was disappointed.
When i watched the first fight/chase set in Africa i was like “wow! This film is something” but the tempo falls drastically and some scenes are actually very boring .Songs seem to come out of nowhere in the second half.

Verdict:

You can watch it when you are free .A passable fare nevertheless!

Special thanks for reading the review,

C ya,

1. Prakash raju excels in the role of a father as usual. He is terrific.
2. subtle comedy in some scenes

Negative points:

1. Unnecessary and unappealing love story of the beggar turned driver who stays in prakash raj’s house.
2. There is absolutely no story here, the movie just looks like a 15 minute episode of a father-daughter relationship in commercial film blown out of proportion. Will certainly not appeal to the masses.

Summary:

Fist half of the film is good.second half is OK.The movie has huge doses of emotion with little slices of entertainment.Prakash raj’s acting , Trisha , some really nice scenes make this movie worth a watch!

Verdict:

Watch it when you are free and mentally strong enough to digest the doses of emotion
